Studio Policies & Agreements

Membership Agreement & Safety Acknowledgment  

1. Eligibility & Studio Access

• I understand that a completed safety orientation is required before using studio equipment.

• I acknowledge that valid membership or current class enrollment is required for studio access.

• I agree to observe posted studio hours at all times.

• I understand that studio access is granted via a personal digital access code, which may not be shared.

2. Safety Acknowledgment & Responsibilities

2.1 Personal Protective Equipment

I agree to comply with all safety requirements, including:

• Wearing closed-toe shoes at all times

• Tying back long hair when using wheels or equipment

• Securing or removing loose clothing, jewelry, or scarves

• Wearing a respirator mask when mixing dry clay or glazes

• Using appropriate protective gear as recommended by studio staff

2.2 Equipment Safety

• I will not operate equipment unless I have been trained and approved to do so.

• I agree to report damaged or malfunctioning equipment immediately.

• I understand that only authorized staff may load, unload, or fire kilns.

• I will never reach into moving wheels or operating machinery.

• I agree to keep my work area clean and free of hazards.

3. Studio Etiquette & Conduct

I agree to:

• Respect shared spaces, tools, equipment, and other members’ work

• Clean my workspace after every session using the required wet cleanup procedure

• Not touch or move another person’s work without permission

• Return all tools and equipment to their designated locations

• Use headphones for personal music or media

• Consume food and beverages only in designated areas

• Maintain reasonable noise levels and behave respectfully at all times

4. Wet Cleanup Policy

I understand and agree that:

• Clay scraps and trimmings must be placed in personal containers or designated waste clay buckets

• Glaze waste may be placed down studio sink into the clay trap bucket 

• Equipment and surfaces must be cleaned using wet sponges and mopping only. 

5. Work Identification & Storage

• I agree to clearly label all work with my name or initials, date created, and any special firing instructions.

• I understand that storage space is limited and assigned.

• I acknowledge that unclaimed work older than 60 days may be discarded or recycled.

• I understand that finished work must be picked up within 30 days of completion.

• I agree that the Studio is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.

6. Materials & Clay Use

• I understand that studio clay is available for purchase.

• I agree not to bring outside clay. 

• I will reclaim clay responsibly.

• I understand that studio glazes are provided for member use and must be stirred and covered properly.

7. Kiln Use & Liability

• I understand that only authorized staff may operate kilns.

• I acknowledge that ceramics firing involves inherent risks and that kiln losses may occur.

• I understand that work with glaze drips, cracks, or structural instability may be refused for firing.

• I accept responsibility for damage caused to kiln shelves due to improperly glazed work.

• I agree to use kiln cookies or protective measures when testing new or risky glaze combinations.

8. Violations & Consequences

I understand that failure to comply with studio policies may result in:

1. Verbal warning

2. Written warning

3. Temporary suspension of studio privileges

4. Permanent revocation of studio privileges without refund for serious or repeated violations
